Cormorant with Napping Ducks Redux

Double-crested cormorants dry their wings in the sun because they don't have well-developed oil glands, an odd evolutionary problem for birds that make their living off the sea and coastal waterways. When they're swimming in the water, they ride very, very low because they're not very buoyant either. Photo taken while kayaking the Charles River on Sunday, July 27, 2008. (Photo by Lizbeth Marcs)
